Visit to Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque
Built to exemplify the unity Islam encourages, the mosque is a unity of so many elements that definitely encourage harmony. Macedonian marble, Chandeliers from Germany, carpet from Iran and Ottoman architectural styles create a symphonic masterpiece that has the capacity to accommodate roughly 41,000 worshipers. Its top is decked out with pearly domes that are framed with minarets from which emanate the call of prayer. A walk through its gold-capped pillars and a few minutes inside its semi-precious stone clad interior will douse you with a dose of serenity and spirituality. Once you have admired the religious influence of Abu Dhabi you will be taken to know more about its rich past.
Visit to Heritage Village
Recreated to the tiniest detail of an oasis settlement dating back to the era before oil was discovered, the Heritage village gives us a look into a time that could be forgotten because of Abu Dhabi’s rapid growth. Within its four walls that resemble a fort are exhibits showcasing many historic tools and activities. There is a recreated souk for trading goats, a mosque, a falaj irrigation system and a wind tower. You will see Bedouin tents put up and Arabic coffee being brewn in traditional pots. But, the experience just doesn’t stop there; you can observe so many traditional arts in action. Glass blowing, weaving, soap making, etc are shown. There are also demonstrations of Falconry, a sport that is the pride of Abu Dhabi. Once you are done with the tour of the Heritage Village your mind will be spinning to process how quickly Abu Dhabi transformed from a quaint pearl diving settlement to an architectural masterpiece.
