Kayaking through the Abu Dhabi mangroves with the city skyline behind

Kayak Tour Abu Dhabi: Every Option in 2026

Louvre Abu Dhabi, Full Moon Kayak, Reem Island and the full picture on the Eastern Mangroves including when it is coming back.

🚵 From AED 63 per hour 🏛️ Louvre guided tour 🌙 Full Moon Kayak 🌿 Eastern Mangroves: resuming soon

Kayaking in Abu Dhabi has three distinct settings and each one gives you a completely different experience of the city from the water. The Louvre Abu Dhabi puts you beneath one of the most extraordinary architectural structures in the world. Reem Island puts you in the middle of a modern urban skyline with mangrove channels to explore. And the Eastern Mangroves, which is temporarily closed while government works take place nearby, puts you inside a wildlife corridor in the heart of the city.

This guide covers all three: the two that are open right now with full pricing and booking details, and the Eastern Mangroves with everything you need to know about the closure and when sessions are expected to resume.

"Kayaking in Abu Dhabi gives you a perspective on the city that you simply cannot get from the road or from inside any building. From the water, the scale of what has been built here in fifty years is extraordinary. I have done it hundreds of times and I still find it stops me mid-paddle." Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Emirati local and licensed guide

The water around the Louvre Abu Dhabi is calm, sheltered and turquoise. Paddling in under the dome and looking up at the geometric lattice overhead with light filtering through is genuinely one of the finest experiences available in Abu Dhabi right now. The photographs on this page are from real sessions and are not edited for colour. The water really is that colour beneath the dome.

🌙 Full Moon dates

On selected dates each month, Husaak Adventures runs a Full Moon Kayak at the Louvre. The route is the same as the standard guided tour but the setting is entirely different: the dome illuminated against a night sky, the moon rising behind it, the water reflecting both. Weekend family sessions include one child free for every paying adult. These dates sell out reliably and fast.

Mohammed's recommendation

If you can choose between the day tour and the Full Moon Kayak, choose the Full Moon. Paddling under the dome at night with the moon above is one of the most atmospheric things I can point anyone toward in Abu Dhabi. Book it as soon as dates go on sale. Combine the morning of the same day with the Louvre museum interior and you have an exceptional full day on Saadiyat Island.

🌿 Eastern Mangroves: Coming Back Soon

Temporarily closed · Expected to reopen
Kayaking through the Eastern Mangroves of Abu Dhabi with the city skyline visible above the trees

The Eastern Mangroves kayak corridor: mangrove canopy at water level, Abu Dhabi skyline visible above the trees. This experience will return when the adjacent works are complete.

The Eastern Mangroves national park was for years the single most popular kayaking destination in Abu Dhabi and one of the most remarkable urban paddling experiences anywhere in the Gulf. The kayak route took you through a network of mangrove channels in the heart of the city, with the city skyline visible above the canopy and kingfishers, herons and occasionally reef sharks visible in the clear, shallow water below.

The area is temporarily closed while the Abu Dhabi government carries out infrastructure works in the surrounding area. The mangroves themselves are not being affected. The closure is temporary and the kayaking experience at the Eastern Mangroves is expected to resume once the adjacent works are complete. We will update this page and contact guests on our list as soon as a reopening date is confirmed.

⚠️ Current Status: Temporarily Closed

The Eastern Mangroves national park kayak area has been temporarily closed while government works take place in the adjacent area. No confirmed reopening date has been announced as of August 2026. The mangroves themselves are healthy and unaffected by the works. The experience will resume when the area reopens.

What Made the Eastern Mangroves Kayaking Special

Couple kayaking at sunset near Abu Dhabi mangroves Kayaking in Abu Dhabi with the city skyline seen through the mangroves

The Eastern Mangroves kayak corridor offered something that no other location in Abu Dhabi currently provides: the sensation of being inside a natural ecosystem while the city skyline sits on the horizon above you. The mangrove channels are narrow enough that the canopy closes overhead in sections. The water is shallow, clear and calm throughout. Wildlife including kingfishers, egrets, herons and grey reef sharks is regularly visible in the channels.

The Eastern Mangroves experience was run by Husaak Adventures and was available as both a guided tour and a self-guided rental. Sunrise sessions before 7:00am in the cooler months were particularly popular, giving paddlers the mangroves in golden morning light before the city noise began. Sunset sessions in October to April, with the sky turning orange above the mangrove canopy, were consistently among the highest-rated outdoor experiences in Abu Dhabi.

✅ We will list you when it reopens

If you are coming to Abu Dhabi and want to be notified as soon as Eastern Mangroves kayaking resumes, send us a WhatsApp message with the dates you are visiting. We will contact you as soon as the area reopens and can hold preferred session slots for guests on our list.
