About this experience
Most Abu Dhabi desert safaris include a camel ride, but honestly it is a short round at the farm, over almost as soon as it begins. If the camel is the actual reason you want to go into the desert, this tour is built entirely around that: a proper guided trek across the dunes, led on foot by a handler, with real time in the saddle to settle into the slow sway of a camel's walk and take the photos without being rushed past them.
A camel's gait sets a completely different pace to a 4x4, slow, rolling and quiet, and it lets the desert come to you rather than the other way round. We run this camel ride in Abu Dhabi in two slots: a cooler, quieter morning trek, or a sunset trek when the light turns gold over the dunes, the favourite for photographs. No riding experience is needed either way, and the camels are calm, working animals well used to guests.
How it unfolds
At the camel farm
Introduced to a calm, well cared-for camel and shown how to sit comfortably.
With help from your handler
Climb up with guidance, no experience needed.
Roughly 45 minutes
Led on foot across the dunes at an easy, rolling pace.
Along the route
Pause where the light and dunes line up best for photos.
Back at the farm
Coffee, dates and water to finish the trek.
Two time slots, same guided trek
Golden hour light over the dunes, the favourite for photographs.
Cooler, quieter desert air, ideal in the warmer months.

Questions about camel ride
Can you ride camels in Abu Dhabi?
Yes, on a guided camel trek across the dunes near Al Khatim, led on foot by a handler, offered as a morning or sunset tour from AED 390 per person.
How much is a camel ride in Abu Dhabi?
From AED 390 per person for the sunset trek and AED 490 for the morning trek. This is a full guided trek, not the short single round included on a desert safari.
What is the difference between this and the camel ride on a desert safari?
On our desert safaris the camel ride is one short round at the farm, part of a longer day. This tour is a standalone trek, longer, guided, and focused only on the camels.
Is camel trekking suitable for children and first time riders?
Yes, the camels are calm and each is led by a handler, so no riding experience is needed, and it suits families and first timers comfortably.
Is the morning or the sunset camel trek better?
Both work well. Morning is cooler and quieter, ideal in warmer months. Sunset gives golden light over the dunes and is the favourite for photographs.
