About this experience
Liwa is not a city edge desert. It sits on the northern rim of the Rub al Khali, the Empty Quarter, the largest continuous sand desert on earth, and the dunes here rise far higher than anything within an hour of Abu Dhabi, some cresting close to 300 metres. Camping overnight in Liwa means driving roughly two and a half hours from the capital into genuinely remote dune country, then watching that landscape shift through sunset, a properly dark, star dense night, and a sunrise that few visitors to the UAE ever actually see.
This is the trip for travellers who have already done a city edge desert safari and want the real thing, or who simply want a night somewhere the light pollution of Abu Dhabi and Dubai cannot reach.
