This is the question I get asked more than almost anything else by families visiting Abu Dhabi. Which Yas Island park should we go to? And the honest answer is always the same: it depends entirely on who is in your group and what you actually want from the day.
Four major theme parks sit on Yas Island. Each is genuinely different in character. The mistake most visitors make is choosing on name recognition alone, or because they have been to something similar in Florida or Singapore and assume the Yas version will be comparable. Sometimes it is. Sometimes the Abu Dhabi version is better. Let me go through each one properly.
The Four Parks: An Overview
Ferrari World Abu Dhabi
Ferrari World opened in 2010 and is still, sixteen years later, the most impressive theme park in the UAE for what it does best: speed and adrenaline. The building itself, at 86,000 square metres under a single roof shaped like a Ferrari GT body, is one of the largest indoor theme parks ever built. Walking in from the heat outside into a vast, cool, red and black interior with the smell of racing fuel in the air is a genuinely arresting experience.
Formula Rossa is the headline attraction and it delivers completely. Zero to 240 kilometres per hour in 4.9 seconds. The launch is so fast that you have to wear protective goggles. Most guests come off it immediately wanting to go again. Flying Aces, the world's tallest non-inverting loop roller coaster, is the second-best ride in the park and in my view the more technically impressive of the two. Turbo Track launches you vertically out of the roof of the building and back down again. Turbo Drift is an immersive Formula 1 driving experience that holds up well for motorsport fans.
For young children and guests who do not want the intense rides, Ferrari World has a junior zone called Speed of Magic and a Scuderia Challenge driving simulator section. These are decent rather than exceptional. Ferrari World is fundamentally a park for people who want to go fast and feel the engineering behind it. If that describes your group, there is nowhere better on the island.
Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi
Yas Waterworld is Abu Dhabi's flagship water park and it is, by any measure, a large and well-made one. Over 40 rides and attractions spread across a generous site, with the Arabian heritage theme applied consistently throughout the design. The Dawwama, a tornado ride that fits up to 6 people in a single tube and drops them into a funnel, is genuinely thrilling. The Mattar slide drops you at high speed down a near-vertical 30-metre face. The Master Blaster water coasters use jets of water to propel riders uphill as well as down, which surprises most guests who have not encountered them before.
What works particularly well at Yas Waterworld is the range across different thrill levels. There are slides that a confident 8-year-old can manage alongside slides that give adults pause. The wave pool and the lazy river sections give families somewhere to regroup between the more intense attractions. The park is large enough that even on busy days the queues on most rides remain manageable if you arrive early.
The honest limitation is the outdoor setting. In peak summer from June to August, the walking sections and queuing areas are brutally hot. Shade is partial rather than comprehensive. I recommend Waterworld in the cooler months from October to April when the outdoor experience is genuinely comfortable. In summer it is still worth visiting but arrive early and retreat to the air-conditioned food and rest areas from noon to 2pm.
Warner Bros World Abu Dhabi
Warner Bros World opened in 2018 and is the strongest family park on Yas Island for one specific reason: everything inside it is fully air-conditioned and accessible to children from around 3 years old upwards. When you are visiting Abu Dhabi in summer with young children, or when your group includes a wide age range from toddlers to adults, this is the park that works for everyone rather than splitting the group.
The six themed lands are DC, Cartoon Junction, Dynamite Gulch, Warner Bros Plaza, Gotham City and Metropolis. Each is designed with genuine attention to the source material rather than generic theme-park aesthetics. Gotham City feels genuinely atmospheric. The Cartoon Junction area, with its Looney Tunes rides and interactive elements, is where children between 3 and 8 will spend most of their time and it is very well made for that age group.
The character meet-and-greets are one of the park's strongest elements. Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Scooby-Doo, Batman, Wonder Woman: the characters are present throughout the day in their respective themed areas rather than confined to a single greeting station. Children aged 4 to 10 consistently rate this as one of the highlights of their Abu Dhabi visit. For teenagers and adults without young children, Warner Bros World runs out of intensity relatively quickly. The rides are fun but not thrilling at the Ferrari World level. Know your audience before you book.
SeaWorld Abu Dhabi
SeaWorld Abu Dhabi opened in May 2023 and is the newest of the four parks, and also the most different in character from the others. It combines rides and attractions with genuine marine life exhibits across eleven themed zones: Ocean, Endless Sea, Rocky Point, Freshwater Oasis, Icy Shores, The Tidal Breakers, Discovery Lagoon, The Coral Reef, Abu Dhabi Seas, and others. The animal welfare approach here is worth noting: there are no performing animal shows. The focus is on natural behaviour, conservation messaging and education, which makes it a genuinely different kind of theme park experience.
The 25-metre deep aquarium tank is one of the largest in the region and alone justifies a visit for anyone with an interest in marine life. The rides are present and well-made, with wave simulators, water coasters and drop rides across the zones. But SeaWorld is at its best when guests slow down and engage with the animal encounters and the interpretive elements, rather than treating it purely as a ride park.
For families with children who are interested in the ocean, marine biology or wildlife, SeaWorld Abu Dhabi is the right choice and will hold their attention differently from any of the other three parks. For pure ride throughput it sits behind Ferrari World and Waterworld. The park is entirely or largely air-conditioned across its main indoor zones, making it a reasonable summer option alongside Warner Bros World.

Which Park for Which Age Group
Ages 3 to 6
Warner Bros World is the clear choice. Every ride is accessible, the characters are a genuine highlight, and being fully indoors means no sun, no heat and no difficult walking between attractions.
Ages 6 to 11
Warner Bros World or Yas Waterworld depending on season. Both have strong content for this age. Waterworld suits October to April. Warner Bros suits year-round and particularly summer.
Ages 12 to 17
Ferrari World is the one that genuinely impresses teenagers. Formula Rossa alone is worth the ticket price for most of them. Warner Bros World loses its appeal rapidly above age 12.
Couples and adults
Ferrari World for the shared thrill of Formula Rossa, Flying Aces and Turbo Track. Yas Waterworld as a relaxed and genuinely fun second option, particularly in the cooler months.
Mixed families
SeaWorld Abu Dhabi or Yas Waterworld are the most universally accessible for groups spanning a wide age range. SeaWorld suits families where education matters alongside entertainment.
Summer visits
Ferrari World and Warner Bros World are both fully indoors and air-conditioned throughout. SeaWorld Abu Dhabi is mostly indoors. Yas Waterworld is manageable with an early start.
Can You Visit Two Parks in One Day?
The honest answer is: not well. Each park is large enough to fill a full day if you want to experience it properly, with reasonable queue times on the major rides and time for food and rest breaks. Attempting two parks in one day means doing justice to neither and arriving back at your hotel exhausted.
If you have two days on Yas Island, the best combination depends on your group. Ferrari World on day one and Warner Bros World or Waterworld on day two covers both the thrill end and the family end of the spectrum. Multi-park passes offered through the official Yas Island website give meaningful discounts for two or more parks and are worth calculating against individual ticket prices before you book.
Multi-park passes: worth it?
If you are visiting two or more parks across your Abu Dhabi trip, a multi-park pass will almost always save money compared to buying tickets separately at the gate. Combining Ferrari World With an Abu Dhabi City Tour
The most popular structure for guests who want both Ferrari World and the city highlights is a morning at Ferrari World, which typically opens at 10:00am, followed by an afternoon city tour covering the Grand Mosque, the Corniche and Qasr Al Hosn before a dhow cruise dinner in the evening. This fills a day very fully but works well because Ferrari World is indoors and air-conditioned, the city sites are manageable in the afternoon if you have transport between them, and the dhow cruise gives everyone a chance to sit down and watch the city from the water.

Getting to Yas Island
Yas Island is approximately 30 minutes from central Abu Dhabi city by road. A taxi from most city hotels costs AED 60 to AED 100. Free parking is plentiful on the island across all four park sites. From Dubai the drive is approximately 60 to 70 minutes via the E11 highway in normal traffic, extending to 90 minutes during Thursday evening and Friday morning peaks.
